Dennis Martin Werneburg, 63, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at his home following an extended illness. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family burial will be at a later date.

Surviving are his wife, Alice; son, Nate (Brooke) Werneburg of Rochester, Minn.; daughter, Michelle (Nick) Cox of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Avery, Caleb, Gavin, Cameron, Connor and Braden; sister, Holly Berg of Wheatland; many nieces and nephews; stepfather, Frances Sundberg; and sister-in-law, Rayma Werneburg of Indianola.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walt Werneburg.
Dennis Martin Werneburg was born Jan. 17, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of William and Lucile Wheeler Werneburg. Dennis and Alice Pospisil were united in marriage on Jan. 27, 1973, in Cedar Rapids. Dennis worked as a crane operator for the Marion Iron Co. and later for Cedar Rapids Schools before retiring.
Dennis enjoyed coaching football for the Metro League in Cedar Rapids, fishing, outdoor sports and woodworking. What he treasured most was the time he was given to spend with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was a loving son, husband, father, grand-father and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
