Dennis Tharp
DENNIS THARP
Lowden
Dennis B. Tharp, 60, died in his home on Thursday, March 13, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, with Pastor Barb Muhs officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 16, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dennis was born Feb. 13, 1954, to William and Zella (Eaton) Tharp in Vinton, Iowa. He graduated from Lowden High School in 1972. After high school he worked several jobs, including owning and managing Denny's Reliance Tap in Lowden for 10 years and working for Iverson Construction and Wendling Quarries. Dennis then farmed in the Lowden and Holy Cross areas, raising hogs and milking dairy cows, and most recently worked for Lowden Salvage. He did 50 years of manual labor until the cancer he had battled for 13 months slowed him down.
He loved trail riding, fishing, camping and kitchen gadgets. Dennis loved all kids, especially his own, and was such a sweet man he couldn't get enough sugar in him! He loved his pumpkin pie smothered in whipped cream throughout the whole year, especially for breakfast. Dennis was the type of guy who would talk your arm and leg off.
Survivors include his children, Dalton of Holy Cross, Shenyse of Ossian and McAllister and Shyanne of Lowden; and brothers, Mike (Julie) and Greg of Lowden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Colleen Clarke.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Jackson County and Delores Griffith for their loving care of Dennis.
