Dennis D. Swearingen, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Per Dennis' request, there will be no service. Iowa cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Julie (Colby) Schmelzer of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Albert; and four sisters, Shirley, Mary, JoAnn and Joyce.
He is also survived by two grandchildren, Haley and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Dennis was born on March 30, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Albert and Mildred Parmer Swearingen. He married Ruth Baker on Nov. 4, 1982, in Iowa City.
Dennis proudly served in the Army in Vietnam. He enjoyed and was very talented at building cars. Dennis was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.
