Dennis Russell, 76, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021, at his home following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning, March 18, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg, with interment in the St. Joseph Cemetery The seating capacity of the church is restricted to CDC social distancing standards. Fr. Nick March will officiate at the services. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Masks must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the funeral home or the church. Social distancing standards need to be strictly observed. You may sign the online guestbook or leave a condolence at goettschonline.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Patsy; three sons, Carl (Crystal), Perrysburg, Ohio, Eric (Jane) and Jason (Sarah), both of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Destiny (Ryan), Paul, Cass, Mikey,Harper, Owen and Nora; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Hayden; and five brothers, Ralph (Kathy), Cedar Rapids, Moe (Mardi), Panora, Norm (Carol), Marion, John (Cindy), Ames and Dave (Lori) Olathe, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons.
Dennis Richard Russell was born April 26, 1944, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Richard and Mary Pospisil, Russell. Dennis started school in Mount Vernon before the family moved to Prairieburg in 1956. He graduated from the Coggon High School in 1962 and then started farming near Prairieburg. Dennis married Patsy Kula on May 15, 1965, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg. Dennis did custom silage chopping, was an Archer Oil Dealer for 40 years and a member of the 10,000 gallon club and sold seed corn besides farming.
Dennis was active at St. Joseph's parish, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed riding his many motorcycles over the years and tried to ride his Can-Am Spyder with his wife Patsy at least one day a month all year long. He was always ready to play Euchre or tell stories to his grandchildren. His wife Patsy misses his bear hugs and unconditional love.
