Dennis R. "Denny" Molumby, age 76, died on December 23, 2025, in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm (Rosary at 1:00 pm) at the Cedar Memorial Park State Room, in Cedar Rapids. Visitation 9:30 am, Monday, December 29, 2025, until the 10:30 am Funeral Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 4949 Council St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. A Funeral Luncheon will be held in the Church Hall following the Funeral Mass. Interment will be held at 1:30 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
He was born January 11, 1949, in Cedar Rapids to Robert and Edna (Kalous) Molumby.
Denny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Coe Molumby; his sons Dan Molumby (Amanda Yerkes), Justin (Lisa) Molumby; and his granddaughter, Jade Dunn, grandsons, Clayton and Carson Molumby; brother Mick (Deb) Molumby, and sister Colleen (Marty) Steadman, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Denny lived his whole life in Cedar Rapids but traveled with the drum corps from the time he was eight through his 18th year; with the last two years satisfying his dream of marching with the Cavaliers in Chicago, IL. Denny played in many rock bands through his high school years and never really stopped drumming. He taught the bass drum line of the Emerald Knights in Cedar Rapids for several years and passed a lot of percussion knowledge through this teaching. In the late 1980's he got together with some like-minded individuals who all had a hunger to learn the art of Bonsai and was one of the founding members of the Eastern Iowa Bonsai Association. This club is still going strong and teaching all kinds of new members, a love for tiny trees. Denny has a special place in his heart for his Irish Heritage and was involved SaPaDaPaSo for many, many years, and went to Ireland with Coe to research his family heritage. He had tremendous story-telling skills stemming from his Irish Heritage.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Eastern Iowa Bonsai Association or Saint Pius X Catholic Church.
