Dennis D. Petersen, 59, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with one hour of visitation Thursday at the church. Burial: Garrison Cemetery, Garrison.
Survivors include his mother, Lauretta of Keystone; stepdaughter, Michelle (Craig) Medberry of Marion; grandsons, Chandler, Cale and Camden; siblings, Judy McCarty of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Delores) Petersen of Mechanicsville and Nancy (Scott) Franck of Atkins; his very special friend, Lisa McCoy; and her daughter, Hayley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Petersen; and brother-in-law, John McCarty.
Dennis was born Sept. 5, 1957, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Harold and Lauretta (Flickinger) Petersen. In 1975, he graduated from Benton Community Schools. Dennis was a lifelong farmer in Benton County. He sold real estate for over 20 years and was a member and past president of the Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors. Dennis was a broker at People's Company in Clive and Skogman Realty. He coached for the Saints baseball program, Hiawatha Kids League and Vinton youth baseball. Dennis enjoyed his Harley and was an avid Hawkeye, Green Bay Packer and New York Yankees fan. He loved his grandchildren unconditionally and enjoyed attending their school and sporting events.
