Dennis, Melvin C.
Melvin C. Dennis, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Crestview Acres, after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Burnita; their children, Steve, Glenn, Glenda, Brenda, Tammy and her husband, Anthony, Melvin Jr., Michael and Rodney; and two brothers, Fred and Cecil.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Stacy, Chanda, Jimmie, Leah, Tabitha, ZaDaysha, Jamison, Jared, LeeRoy and Porchia; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Geraldine, Louise and Virginia.
Mel was born on Feb. 9, 1936, in North English, the son of Charles and Leora Smith Dennis. He married Burnita A. Hearn on July 13, 1985, in Cedar Rapids. Mel worked at Iowa Manufacturing for over 42 years, retiring in 1999.
Mel was a member of the Retreads Motor Cycle Club and the Viola United Methodist Church where he enjoyed attending. He also enjoyed joking with his friends, his motorcycle trips to Sturgis, camping, going to the casino, old cars and especially the time spent with his many friends and beloved family.
“The family would like to thank Hospice for all of their help and kindness; especially Gary, Jessie and Felicia. They have been awesome. The family would also like to thank the staff at Crestview Care Center for their care and kindness.”
