Dennis, Josephine F. 'Josie'

Josephine F. “Josie” Dennis, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center after a brief illness. Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Survivors include her daughter, Mardelle (Richard) Doud of Cedar Rapids; and three sons, Michael (Dawn) of Cedar Rapids, Dr. George (Bonnie) of Omaha, Neb. and Greg (Susan) of Clinton.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a special family friend, Joe Wittkop of Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters and a great-grandchild.

Josephine was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Mary Vanous Rozek. She married Charles E. Dennis on Sept. 19, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. Charles died in 2006.

Josephine was a bookkeeper for the Cedar Rapids Water Department and retired from there after more than 25 years of service. She did volunteer work at the Cedar Rapids Community Schools for many years. Josephine enjoyed crocheting, yard work and especially the time spent with her friends and beloved family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
