Dennis D. Jones, 68, of Solon, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at his home. Family, friends and musicians will gather at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at The Mill in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be held at Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City, beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Dennis Dale Jones was born Feb. 9, 1946, to Iola P. Carpenter Jones and James "Dale" Jones in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He received his education in Milford, Iowa, graduating from Milford High School in 1964. While in school, Dennis played in the band, was on the wrestling team and ran track. Dennis attended the University of Iowa. In September 1966, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He took his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Dennis served at Lowery Air Force Base in Colorado and then was stationed in Seville, Spain. He was discharged in August of 1970 at the rank of sergeant.
He returned to Iowa City where he returned to the University of Iowa and enjoyed managing The Sanctuary Pub. Dennis started Brown Street Music, setting up sound systems for area bands and singing groups. He also enjoyed refurnishing and restoring antique furniture.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Dale Jones.
Dennis is survived by his mother, Iola P. Jones; son, Martin (Trisha) Jones of San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Cherie (Alan) Banks of Spencer, Becky (Don) Kozaczka of Ludlow, Mass., and Mary (Chris) Blanchard of Robins; one brother, Pat (Nancy) Jones of Spencer; 16 nieces and nephews; as well as great-nieces and nephews; along with other relatives and friends.
