Dennis Peter Hilzendager, 72, of Central City, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, by Sister Linda Bechen. The family will greet friends from
4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Roxanne; four sons, Brian (Lori) Hilzendager of Robins, Brent (April) Hilzendager of Kansas, Darrell (Angela) Hilzendager of Marion and Todd (Heidi) Hilzendager of Monticello; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Duane (Helen) Hilzendager of Rugby, N.D., Donald (Gail) Hilzendager of Charleston, S.C., and Larry Hilzendager of Shellsburg; and two sisters, Janice Jaeger of Gackle, South Dakota and Rita (Don) Steeves of North Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Yvonne Schmaltz; and brother, David Hilzendager.
Dennis was born Aug. 27, 1942, in Rugby, N.D., the son of Mathew and Barbara (Heilman) Hilzendager. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He married Roxanne Gronigan on May 23, 1998, in Anamosa. Dennis worked as an engineer with Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 2001.
Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Central City or On With Life Brain Injury and Stroke Rehabilitation in Ankeny, in Dennis' memory.
