Dennis Henry Hazzard, 87, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at home. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at Oakland Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment will take place at Linwood Cemetery at a later date.
Dennis was born on June 26, 1936, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Archie and Doris (Hazel) Hazzard. He attended Johnson High School in St. Paul and went on to attend the University of Minnesota. Dennis served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Era. On Jan. 12, 1963, Dennis was united in marriage to Judith Marie Bury in Minneapolis, Minn. He was principal and teacher at various Christian Schools prior to teaching German and History at the Clear Creek Amana School District and was dedicated to passing along knowledge and his faith through teaching. Dennis used his passion of photography to work in the photo lab at The Gazette. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling in Germany. Dennis was an NRA instructor. He had a very authentic faith. Dennis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dennis is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Judith Hazzard; sons, Paul Hazzard and Jeff Hazzard, both of Marion; daughter, Karen (John) Gosnell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandsons, Joe Gosnell of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Sam Gosnell of Cedar Rapids; sister, Carol (David) Wald of Lakeland, Minn.; and brother, Jim (Jeanette) Hazzard of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie (Jackie) Hazzard and Donald (Marg) Hazzard.
