Dennis D. Gericke, 58, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at his home near Oelwein.
Dennis was born on Feb. 15, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Milo and Norma (Shaffer) Gericke. He was a 1976 graduate of North Linn High School in Troy Mills, Iowa. Following his graduation, he worked in construction for several years prior to becoming employed with the Mental Health Institute in Independence in 1981. On Feb. 3, 1981, he was married to Debra S. Kirkbride in Walker, Iowa. The couple later divorced.
Dennis enjoyed going to auctions, sales and antiquing. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by two children, Cory A. Gericke, Independence, Iowa, and Carissa A. Gericke, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two grandchildren; his father, Milo Gericke, Walker, Iowa; a brother, Michael (Barb) Gericke, Tiffin, Iowa; and a sister, Mary Jo Carlson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, Norma J. Gericke.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, Iowa. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service Wednesday at the funeral home. Dennis' wish was to be cremated following services.
