Dennis "Red" Garwood, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at his home following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hills Community Church, by the Rev. Kent Landhuis. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at Teahen Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Dennis is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Patricia; three children, Gary (Joanne) Kohl and Tracey (David A.) Johnson, both of Cedar Rapids, and Terry (Jeff) Stadler of New Orleans; six grandchildren, Brandon (Ashley), Kristie, Jason (Kirsten), Michael (Rachel), Lindsey (Matt) and Robbie; great- grandchildren, Rylee, Evan Rose, Olivia, Hannah, Charlotte and Clete; brother, Merle of Cedar Rapids; sister, Jane Himmelsbach of Norway; and his four- legged kids, Diego, Annie and Zoie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Beth (1981); three sisters and two brothers.
Dennis was born Nov. 22, 1935, in Iowa City, the son of Delbert and Anna Siepman Garwood. He married Patricia Melsha on April 22, 1963, in Rock Island, Ill. Red served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He worked with the Laborers Local 43 for 38 years, retiring in 1997.
Red was a die-hard Cubs fan and avid Bears and NASCAR fan (GO Jeff Gordon!). His favorite hang-out was Nick's, where he liked eating breakfast. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors and above all, loved spending time with his grandchildren.
