DENNIS "BUTCH" ETZEL

Dennis "Butch" Etzel, 70,
of Alburnett, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Marion, conducted by Pastor Perry Fruhling. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Alburnett.
Butch is survived by his wife, Edna of Alburnett; son, Mike of Alburnett; daughter, Kim (A.J.) Lewis of Center Point; and grandchildren, Matt Etzel, Tayler Etzel, Dean Etzel, Caleigh Lewis, Brailey Lewis and Kolten Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Butch was born Jan. 28, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harold and Vivian (Kirk) Etzel. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1964. Butch served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On Feb. 20, 1971, in Lafayette, he married Edna Buck. Butch was an Otter Creek Township trustee and a member of the Linn Co-op board, Alburnett Fire Department, Linn County Extension Council and St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Butch was a dedicated farmer raising cattle and row crops.
