Dennis John Callas, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at his home in his sleep. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
He was born Feb. 1, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. He was married to Mae Callas on July 23, 1994. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had been employed at St. Luke's Hospital for 10 years, where he made many friends.
He always put family before himself and loved to garden and sit with family and friends. He loved playing cribbage with Mae nearly every day for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mae; children, Christine (Jon) Patterson, Kelley (Charles) Johnson, Kim (Tarek) Schoner, Doug Hardin and David Hardin; stepchildren, Vicki (Tom) Morris, Dennis (Cheryl) Lloyd and Jim Lloyd; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother. Dick (Jane) Callas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Diane and Mary Kay.
