Dennis A. Bierschenk, 74, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospice care in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, rural Newhall. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church in Newhall.
A memorial fund has been established.
Dennis was born Jan. 5, 1942, in Van Horne, the son of Melvin and Viola (Buettner) Bierschenk. He graduated from Newhall High School, Class of 1960. On Nov. 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Linda Furler at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. Linda preceded Dennis in death in 2010.
A busy dairy farmer, father and grandfather, Dennis was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, and engaged in many activities associated with dairy farming and Holstein cattle.
He is survived by his sons, Cary (Jen) Bierschenk of Van Horne and Steve (Monica) Bierschenk of Wildwood, Mo.; grandchildren, Kyle Dhondt, Zach, Ally, Jacob, Gabriel and Rachael Bierschenk; brother, Niles Bierschenk of Van Horne; his mother-in-law, Irene Furler of Newhall; sister-in-law, Kathryn (Tom) Hannemann of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Linda, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carole, and his
father-in-law, Arnold Furler.
