Denison, Betty May
Betty May Denison died Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids at the age of 86 years. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the North English Christian Church, with Pastor Kirk Statler officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Powell Funeral Home, North English, is in charge of arrangements.
Betty was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, a daughter of Kenneth Dale and May (Brubaker) Lane. Betty lived in the Des Moines area before moving to Mason City, North Dakota, Bussey, and What Cheer. She graduated from Barnes City High School. On Feb. 27, 1951, she married Wilford Eugene Denison in What Cheer; they moved to North English in 1955.
Betty was a member of the North English Christian Church, where she was a deacon, taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the CWF. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Red Hat Club.
Betty worked 20 years as a postal clerk in North English for the United States Postal Service.
Betty is survived by daughters, Ruth Ann (Jerry) Dill of Cedar Rapids, Pamela Denison of Cedar Rapids and Crystal (Stan) Weiss of Ladora; son, Gary Denison of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, David and Darren Dill, Austin, Travis and Ashley Clubb; six great-grandchildren, Cody, Alecia and Riley Dill, and Isaac, Celie and Brooklyn Clubb.
She was preceded in death by her husband in January 2002; parents; and a brother, Kenneth Lane.
A memorial fund has been established for the North English Christian Church or Mercy Hospice, Hiawatha.
