Demetrios S. Hadjis, 66, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, with a Trisagion service to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Demetrios was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Stravros and Bessie (Santas) Hadjis. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. Demetrios married Renee Zellers in Maitland, Fla., on Nov. 18, 1995. Demetrios was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church and served on the parish council for many years. He worked in advertising sales and was active in local community theater.
Survivors include his wife, Renee Hadjis of Cedar Rapids; son, Pete (Allison) Hadjis of Davenport; his two beloved granddaughters; brother, Alex (Mindy) Hadjis of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Lynn Hadjis of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stravros and Bessie Hadjis; and his beloved brother, Basil Hadjis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.
