Deloris W. Sharp, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at St. Luke's Hospital. A visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A memorial service will be on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. at Hope United Church of Christ in Hiawatha, with the Rev. Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Deloris was born on Dec. 27, 1933, the daughter of Mearl and Flossie (Kohart) Yorgensen. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1952. She married Zane Sharp on Dec. 26, 1953. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. In their first years of marriage, they traveled and settled in Cedar Rapids in 1957.
Before the children were in school, Deloris was a homemaker; once in school, Deloris started working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co./AT & T, and took an early retirement in 1985. She was a charter member of Hope United Church of Christ.
Deloris was an avid women's Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan. Being a sports lover, she enjoyed playing basketball, bowling and golfing. In her free time, you could find her gardening and sharing her fresh fruits and vegetables with friends and family. Above all, she loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities.
She always will be remembered for her big smile.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Dorothy (Paul) Peterson, Laverne (Don) Reese, Floyd (Hazel) Yorgensen and Fred Yorgensen.
Left to cherish Deloris' memories are her husband, Zane Sharp; her children, Robert Sharp of Austin, Texas, and Debora (Gay) Strunk of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Natalie (Greg) Scheuber, Thomas (Julia) Strunk, Matt (Laura) Strunk, Jacob Strunk, Danielle Sharp and Amanda (Jim Speich) Strunk; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Isabelle, Chloe, Gregory, Amelia, Alexander, Axel, William and Enzo; siblings, Helen Ervin, Lois Yorgensen, Bernard Yorgensen, Mearl (Rose) Yorgensen and Judy (Jerry) Jones; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Yorgensen.
A special thanks to St. Luke's ICU and hospice for their care and compassion during this time.
