Dolores A. (Ressler) Walbrun, 77, of Dubuque, passed away at 9:55 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, at UnityPoint Health The Finley Hospital. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Ave., Dubuque, with the Rev. Alan J. Dietzenbach officiating. To celebrate Dolores' life, friends may visit from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service said at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Dolores was born June 27, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Edward and Eleanor (Hosek) Ressler. She graduated from Walford High School in 1954. She married Dale F. Walbrun July 21, 1957, at St. James Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
Dolores went to nursing school and worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids and at Lady of Lords Nursing Home in Dubuque. Dolores was a hardworking, practical woman who enjoyed the simple things in life. Spending time with family and friends was very important. She had an avid love of nature, animals, gardening, canning and baking. Dolores enjoyed outings with her sisters, her weekly spa day, spending time with her grandchildren and Atalyn and listening to country and Czech heritage music.
Dolores is survived by her five children, Cheryl (Jeff) McCarron, Helen (Bob) Bussan, Dale (Gina) Walbrun, Chris (Mark) Krolick and Carol (Tom) Palya; eight grandchildren, Nick (Jill), Emily, Elyse and Nolan Walbrun, Carolyn, Elisabeth and Paul Krolick and Christopher McCarron, her great-granddaughter, Atalyn Walbrun; two sisters, Nadine Tisl and Shirley (Bob) Tschantz; and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Cerny.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Dale; and two brothers, Leonard and Howard Cerny.
In lieu of flowers, a
Dolores A. Walbrun memorial fund has been established.
