Delores "Dee" J. Olson, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at Northbrook Manor.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Brosh Chapel. Celebration of Life services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will
be in Czech National Cemetery.
Delores Jean was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Leo and Laura (Zabokrtsky) Rohlena. She graduated from Wilson High School. Dee was united in marriage to Don Olson on July 6, 1958, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Dee and Don operated a day care in their home for many families. Dee and Don were proud to serve as foster parents from 1967 to 2004. In this time they cared for well over 200 children.
She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her chickens, ducks and cats, and spending Saturdays with her friends.
Dee is survived by her brother, Marvin (Bonnie) Rohlena of Keystone; sisters-in-law, Shirley Neuhaus, Cindy Olson and Marilyn Olson, all of Cedar Rapids; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, who died Dec. 31, 2005; and her brothers-in-law, Richard Olson, Robert Olson and Raymond Olson.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
The family would also like to extend a special thank- you to the staff at Hospice of Mercy for their loving care of Dee.
