Delores M. Schnoebelen, 97, longtime rural Johnson County resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at the Atrium Village in Hills.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to Hills Atrium Village. Delores Marie Mahoney was born March 3, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Hazel (Cooperider) Mahoney. She graduated high school in West Liberty, with the Class of 1943. On March 5, 1946, she married Gordon P. Schnoebelen at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple farmed all their married lives south of Iowa City. Delores enjoyed her farm life, caring for her family, tending to the many gardens of vegetables and flowers over the years, doing crossword puzzles, playing euchre with family and friends, embroidery and going to dances with Gordon in years past.
Her family includes her three sons, Jerry Schnoebelen (Carolyn), Gary Schnoebelen and Wayne Schnoebelen; granddaughter, Sierra Hargens (Brandan); and two great-grandchildren, Mila and Hudson Hargens.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gordon; and three brothers, Lester, Francis and Kenneth Mahoney.
