Delores "Dolly" A. Bachtell, 82, of West Union, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville with Pastor Lynn Noel and Pastor Adam Starrett officiating. Burial will be at Postville Cemetery. CORRECTED VISITATION: Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union and one hour before services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.
Delores "Dolly" Arlene Bachtell was born Oct. 12, 1934, in rural Auburn, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Agnes (Hanson) Erickson. She graduated from West Union High School in 1952. Dolly worked at Humphry Dairy and First National Bank in West Union. On Feb. 20, 1955, she married Daryl LaVerne Bachtell at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. Dolly also worked at Casey's in Postville.
Delores was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Union and a past member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, where she was active in ladies' circles. Dolly enjoyed cooking, baking, visiting, spending time with her coffee groups and following the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Daryl Bachtell of West Union; her children, Becky Lynn Sweeney of West Des Moines, Thomas Dean (Mary) Bachtell of Grand Junction, Colo., and Robert Alan Bachtell of Loveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Shannon and Nathan Sweeney, Kelli Jo Perches, Victoria, Adam, Carli and Stephanie Bachtell, and Sydney Boom; eight great-grandchildren, Tannah, Kyla and Madeline Sweeney, Devan and Blake Beener, Andrew and Austin Duermit, and Lorelei Boom; and a sister, Kathryn (Willis) Weidemann of West Union.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Candy K. Bachtell; and two brothers, Richard (Carol) Erickson and Adrian Erickson.
Honorary casketbearers are the Hardee's Coffee Groups.
