Delores "Dee" Hiner McNeill, 80, died unexpectedly on Jan. 26, 2021. A private funeral service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Delores (Dee) McNeill, under the video tab starting at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1. A public celebration will be held at
a later date.
Dee was born Feb. 29, 1940, at home to Jacob Henry and Darlene Opal (Bolen) Hiner in Brooklyn, Iowa. The family moved from there to Springville, Iowa, in 1948. She graduated from Springville High School in 1958. She worked at Iowa Electric Light and Power Company (now Alliant Energy) retiring in 1997. She married James Q. McNeill Jr. in 1976. She bowled for a number of years participating in many state and national tournaments. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, serving as Financial Secretary for a number of years. Her favorite pastimes were reading and knitting.
She is survived by her stepchildren, James Q. (Kent) McNeill III, and Theresa (Patrick) Needham and their sons, Alexander and Nicholas; her sister, Doris Hiner Koering; her brothers, Jacob (Beth) Hiner and Jerry Hiner; nephews, Wade (Lisa) Hiner, Jason (Karin) Martin-Hiner and Kris Jacobs; nieces, Stacey (Bill) Matus and Melissa (Brian) Reynolds; great-nieces, Hope (Justin) Brown, Sarah and Grace Matus, Kailee Jacobs, Lauren and Emily Hiner, and Mickala Hiner; great-nephew, Gabriel Hiner; and a great-great-nephew, Will Brown. Also surviving sister-in-law, Mary Jo McAlister.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Jim; her parents; brother-in-law, Larry Koering; and sister-in-law, Verlee Hiner.
