Dellevar, Eileen Catherine (Fieth)
Eileen Catherine (Fieth) Dellevar, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital. A graveside memorial, with military honors, will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Czech National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place Thursday after the graveside starting at 4 p.m. in the First Congregational Church's chapel. Pastor Bob David will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, the Rev. Michele Scott; and the Amsden family.
Eileen was born Jan. 30, 1924, to Samuel Fieth and Ottillie (Trachta) Fieth, in St. Paul, Minn. Eileen graduated from the University of Minnesota in pre-med before receiving a direct commission from President Truman as a 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force in 1952. She was the commanding officer of Ramstein AFB until 1954 when she resumed civilian life. She was married briefly to Claude Dellevar and they later divorced. Eileen received a master's from the University of Iowa in speech pathology and audiology and in special education. She taught at Middle Amana, Newhall, Shellsburg and the Vinton Braille and Sight-Saving schools. She was a draftsman at Collins Radio, Turner Radio and retired from LeFebure in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed design and had designed and built three houses in Cedar Rapids.
During retirement, Eileen completed a second bachelor's at Coe College in art and completed coursework for a master's in leisure studies at the University of Iowa. She enjoyed motorcycle touring with her daughter. She was a member of Coe College's Heritage Club.
Hers was a resilient, adventurous, creative and passionate spirit that made her an exemplary co-worker, friend and mother.
