Dell Michael Mills, 71, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at his home where he lived his entire life.
Dell was born on Feb. 20, 1951, to Donald and Louise (Nielsen) Mills. He graduated from the North Linn High School and attended Kirkwood Community College graduating from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids with a degree in Architectural Drafting, with an associate of Arts and a BA in Art History.
He worked his way through college as the night cook at the 150 Gulf Truck Stop, and he would tour Europe and Australia using, as he would say, the “Thumb method of traveling.” He owned and operated the Delmonico’s Family Restaurant in Center Point, Iowa, and in later years he worked as a chef in retirement facilities. He retired in 2021, after which he used his art ability by painting China and Christmas ornaments.
Dell is survived by his four brothers, Glenn (Cheryl) Mills, Walker, Iowa, David (Cheryl) Mills, Scotts, Mich., Gary (Lynnette) Mills, Georgetown, Ky., and Neil (Rebecca) Mills, Ainsworth, Iowa; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Louise Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at the Walker Bible Church, Walker, Iowa, with the Rev. Darwin Covington officiating. Burial will be in the Walker Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home of Independence is assisting the family with arrangements.
