DELIA "BRIDIE" WALTERS
Palo
We said goodbye to our beautiful mother, Delia "Bridie" Callaghan Walters, on the 15th of March 2015 at the age of 85.
She was born Jan. 6, 1930, in the village of Breaffy, County Mayo, Ireland, to Thomas and Mary Ellen (Connor) Callaghan. She came to this country in 1949 with her sister, Kathleen (Valarie), to work with her sister, Mary (Pokora). While living in Rye, N.Y., she met and married James R. Walters. A longtime resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, she moved to Palo, Iowa, in 2013 to live with her daughter, Pat.
Our lives were blessed to have her as a mother. She always believed in our abilities and encouraged each of us to follow our dreams wherever they may lead; always there over the years to listen to our achievements or woe, however minor they might have been. As time passed and her world began to fade, due to Alzheimer's disease, our roles reversed. We became her provider, listening post, caring, loving, reassuring and filling in the gaps of time gone by.
We love and thank you Mom for all that you did for us during your lifetime. God bless and keep safe Mom. Your children, Mary Ellen and Charlie Triplett, Norfolk, Va., Carol and Scott Marshall, Lake Station, Ind., Pat and Deryl Kilpatrick, Palo, Thomas Walters and Cristina Garrison, Chicago, Peter and Sharon Walters, Cincinnati, Ohio, Linda Walters and Dana Saladen, Beaumont, Calif., James Walters and Joe Diaz, San Rafael, Calif.; your 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and surviving siblings, Mick Callaghan, Castlebar, Ireland, and Eileen and Sean Corley, Ealing, England.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Eugene Callaghan, Liverpool, England; Mary Pokora, Cincinnati, Ohio; Kathleen (Kit) Valarie, Harrison, N.Y.; and Margaret (Rita) Redmond, Castlebar, Ireland.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy for its care and support.
A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at St. Patrick Catholic Church Adoration Chapel in the Parish Center, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Friends may visit with the family after 9 a.m. at the church. Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
