DELBERT L. WILLIAMS
Cedar Rapids
Delbert L. Williams passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was
80 years old.
Delbert was born in 1936 to his parents, Alfred and Laura (Christian) Williams, in Muscatine, Iowa. One of seven children, he grew up in Tipton. In 1951, he made the choice to serve our country and joined the U.S. Army, serving until 1955. After his service, he married the love of his life, Laurel-Jean Proesch, in Lowden. They had five children together. He worked for Peter Pan Bakery for 10 years as a delivery driver, then he moved on to Dow's Dairy. During that time he went into business with his brother, Denny. Together they opened a transportation company, Hill and Williams Brothers, along with Kay and Kent Hill.
An outdoorsman, he loved camping, boating and being out in nature. He also was a proud member of the Marion American Legion.
Given the gift of gab, he never met anyone he couldn't talk to. On Sundays, he attended Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Farley Williams; a brother, Allan Williams; and a sister, Peg Sissell.
He is survived by his wife; his children, Harley (Sheri) Williams, Jean (Blair) Wildman, Wesley (Susan) Williams and Lesley (Robin) Williams; his siblings, Dennis Williams, Maralee Dotson, Richard Williams and Warren Williams; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Monday, Oct. 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Services will be at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, with a private burial following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Echo Hill Presbyterian Church.
