Delbert F. (Dick) Talbott,

of Cedar Rapids, passed away March 19, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services with military honors will be Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, with lunch and fellowship following. Friends may visit on Friday, March 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The family will have a private inurnment service at Cedar Memorial Cemetery Rotunda.

Delbert was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, to Lawrence and Julia Talbott. He was married to Josephine Pose on Nov. 27, 1946.

Survivors include daughters, Carol (Dan) Downing of Fort Collins, Colo., Barbara (Jim) Vancura of Cedar Rapids, Diane Talbott of Cedar Rapids and Kathy (Paul) Kyle of Opelika, Ala.; three grandsons; two step-grandsons; one stepgranddaughter; six great-grandchildren; 10 nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; parents, Lawrence and Julia Talbott; and his brother, Marvin Talbott.

Delbert was employed by the Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. and retired in 1986.

He served on active duty in the U. S. Army during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Berlin crisis in 1961-62. He continued as a career reservist, retiring in 1980 with the rank of colonel.

Strong in his Christian faith, Delbert served in many leadership and teaching positions in his church during his life, and was a longtime member of the choir. He and his wife were founding members of the Cedar Rapids Emmaus Community.

Delbert and his wife, Josephine, volunteered for many years at both the Green Square Meals as well as working at the United Methodist Commission on Relief in Louisiana.

A longtime member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States, he continued to be active in the local chapter both prior to and after his military retirement.

In his spare time, Delbert was an avid rail fan, often traveling across the country to see and photograph steam engines. He was a member of the Chicago Northwestern Historical Society.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made in his name to the Salem United Methodist Church.
