DeHook, Sammy
Sammy DeHook, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, on Thursday, July 26, 2012, surrounded by his family. Graveside services: 3 p.m. Friday at Muslim National Cemetery. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Sammy is survived by his wife, Caryl; three children, Deborah Walshire, Teresa (Rod) Schlotfelt and James (Charlene) DeHook; three grandchildren, James Fisher, Samual DeHook and Dawn (Harry) Meader; five great-grandchildren, Austin and Haley Lewis, Jackson and Alaina Fisher and Maddox Meader; nephew, Mike (Jean) Abdoney; and many nieces and nephews, all of Cedar Rapids; and his faithful cat, Fatboy.
His parents, brothers Hassan and Eddie and sisters Mazeda Assad and Sebie Abdoney preceded Sammy in death.
Sammy was born July 2, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the son of James and Fatima (Godbond) DeHook. He worked for many years as a service adviser at Allen's, Handlers and Millers. Sammy was a Navy veteran of World War II.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Sister Mary Lou Podzimek and Mercy Medical Center for Sammy's wonderful care and the support given to the family.
