Dedek, Mary Jane
downtown Cedar Rapids and was married to Jerry S. Dedek in St. Paul, Minn., in January 1943.
Also known as Bubby, Mio, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and “The Bubster,” mom's enduring legacy will be best remembered as her endless spirit-filled compassion, her integrity and decency, her limitless kindness to others, and unceasing love for her family. Nowhere was her example of quiet strength and courage more evident than in the uncomplaining and grace-filled manner in which she faced three major surgeries and lengthy rehabilitations during the last 20 years. Mary Jane was the quintessential “good woman” who nursed her own mother and later her husband through their final illnesses at home. Making her home for the last 20 years with her daughter and son-in-law, she moved from her 100-year old home for the first time in her life when she was 72.
Always a lover of pets, she was never without a faithful companion, and will be missed by Cassie. She will be thought of often and missed by all who knew her and whose lives were influenced or touched by her kind words and actions. She was a shining example of a life well-lived, humbly and contentedly.
Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or St. Pius X Catholic Church.
