DEBRA MARTIN
Cedar Rapids
Debra Lynn Martin, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. A memorial gathering will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. Celebration of Life Service. A private family inurnment will be in Czech National Cemetery.
Debra was born Feb. 25, 1954, in St. Ansgar, the daughter of Francis and Inez (Stromley) Hommez. Debra grew up a farm girl and loved being outside, spending time with her horses as a child. She wore that farm girl hat with pride her entire life. Always a hard working woman, she gave whatever she did in life 100 percent. After her marriage to Paul on July 20, 1979, it was clear that her No. 1priority was her family. She instilled her work ethic and the love of outdoors in her two daughters, Kristin and Kerra. Their favorite hobbies together were fishing, planting flowers outside and enjoying a big family meal on Sundays. After the birth of her grandsons, Hunter in October 2008 and Cohen in 2011, the love of her family grew. Deb and her husband encouraged their mother to let her boys get dirty and be boys. Anyone who had a chance to meet Deb knew she had a heart of gold. She will be missed by many.
Debra is survived by her husband, Paul; her children Kristin (Justin) Linnell and Kerra (Corey) Yeggy, all of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Hunter and Cohen Linnell; her parents, Francis and Inez Hommez of St. Ansgar; her brother, Mark (Angie) Hommez of St. Ansgar; sisters, Sandra (Roger) Eberling of St. Ansgar and Beckie (Tony) Countryman of Tipton; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Nettie Stromley; and her grandfather, Carl Stromley.
