Debra was born April 2, 1956, in Monticello, Iowa to Melvin and LaQuita (Rickels) Good. Following High School, she graduated from Clinton Community College with an Associates for Arts Degree. Debra was united in marriage to Ricky Starr on July 28, 1973 in DeWitt, Iowa – they later divorced but remained friends.
Debra was a member and was confirmed at the McCausland United Methodist Church.
Debra loved to write verses and poetry. She also enjoyed tending to her many plants and caring for all the cats and dogs she had throughout her life. Everyone fondly remembered her talent for crafting the most delicious currant jelly! Her main priority in life was caring for and loving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When not with her kids, she loved spending time with her sisters during their “sisters’ weekend”. There wasn’t a time you wouldn’t find her without a glass of tea in hand.
Years ago, Debra was in the fight of her life and was ultimately victorious - a 20-year breast cancer survivor.
Debra is survived by her four daughters – Jenny (Tom) Smith of Lost Nation, IA, Heather (Chad) Niec of Cedar Rapids, IA; Ashley (Sean) Reiter of Maquoketa, IA and Jolene (Robert Atkinson) Starr of Lost Nation, IA; and Oltjon (Joana) Babani - a foreign exchange student who Deb considered her son; with many grandchildren - (Matthias, William (Dakota), Lexy, Lane (Attalina), Keira, Bre, Leia, Theron, Libby, Jason, Victoria, Henry) and four great-grandchildren – (Azlyn, Samarah, Christopher, Reed, Clayton); four sisters – Cindy (Randy) Fuller of DeWitt, IA, Mary Good of Nevada, Missouri, Andrea (Rich) Eggers of Clinton, Angela (Michael) Ahrens of DeWitt, IA; 2 Brothers – Meynard (Deb) Good of Camanche, IA and Thayne (Linda Pershing) Good of Camanche, IA; two aunts - Sandra Bachara of Tinley Park, IL and Beverly Rickels of Monticello, IA and many friends.
Preceding Debra in death were her parents, her daughter’s father, Rick Starr, Son in Law- Chris Ellis, one nephew – Brian Fuller and niece – Lisa (Bennett) Yarolem.
