Debra K. Showalter, 67, of Shueyville, Iowa, passed away on June 28, 2023.
Debra Kay Wilkerson was born Jan. 26, 1956, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Chod and Sylvia (Davis) Wilkerson. On Feb. 13, 1982, she married Bart Showalter. She provided in-home daycare before her career of teaching at Taft Middle School in Cedar Rapids. She loved her students and kept in touch with many of them for the rest of her life. She enjoyed planting and caring for her flowers, was an avid reader, and a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals fan. Deb found the most joy in her life through her family, she fiercely loved every member of her family. She got great joy from attending their concerts, plays, swim meets, baseball games, and events of every kind.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Bart; her sons, Jason (Dani) and Andrew; her grandchildren, Addy and Aiden; and many more family and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service celebrating Deb’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given in her name to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, 200 Hawkins Dr., Iowa City, IA 52242.
