Debra "Debbie" Murphy, 63, of North Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at North Liberty Living Center (in the community room) 410 Ashley Court, North Liberty, IA. Memorials in her name may be sent to her sister's home, Attn: Wanda Murphy, 410 Ashley Ct., #302, North Liberty, IA, 52317.
Debbie was born on Aug. 11, 1955, to Bobby Sr. and Joann (Covel) Murphy in Sterling, Ill. Debbie lived in Illinois and North Carolina before making Iowa her home. She was a certified nurse's aide and worked at various care centers. She worked at Rockwell Collins for 18 years. Her co-workers knew her as the "hat lady" with an unforgettable personality.
She loved to crochet doilies and baby clothes. Her love of doing crafts and seeing the enjoyment that they brought was all the satisfaction she needed. You could always find Debbie cheering on the Hawkeyes on game day.
Debbie will be remembered by her daughter, Joann Hobbs of Mississippi; son, David Hoefke of Illinois; granddaughter, Verne; sisters, Wanda Murphy of North Liberty and Candy (Monte) Ellery of Tiffin; brother, Bobby Murphy Jr. of Baxter, Iowa; aunt and uncle, who were like parents to her, Nancy and Allen Harden of Rock Falls, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one granddaughter, Becky.
