Deborah Kathleen Thayer of Cedar Rapids went home
to be with the Lord on July 20, 2017. Visitation: 4 to 7
p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Service will be conducted by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Clair of Cedar Rapids; children, Richard Bennett of Huntersville, N.C., Carie (Matt) Hrynkiewicz of Concord, N.C., Chelle (Jason) Bennett of Marion, Sue (Keith) Heitmann of Littleton, Colo., Steve (Barb) Thayer of Burridge, Ill., and Michele (Maz) Knight of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Sophia, Bennett, Brayden, Melanie, Matthew, Ben, Ryan and Sydney; and siblings, Ron LaVelle of Colorado, Tom LaVelle of Cedar Rapids and Janice Smith of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Gaddis; and grandchildren, Chase and Katrina Heitmann.
Debbie was born July 28, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Rodney and Dorothy (Carie) LaVelle. She graduated from Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids. Debbie and Clair Thayer were united in marriage on June 25, 1993, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked at the courthouse and at Zimmerman Ford.
Debbie was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed shopping for bargains, but the time she spent with her friends, family and grandchildren were her true joy.
