Deaver, David A. Sr.
David A. Deaver Sr., 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Dan Sanford officiating. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
David is survived by his wife, Scina; children, Hamode (Judy) Hasson, Karma Hamood-Ginalski, Dave (Judy) Deaver, Dianne (Layne) McDowell and Doug (Jackie) Deaver; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Deaver of San Francisco, Cali.; and cousin, Merritt Graham of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Beulah Deaver; two sons, Kenneth Hasson and Dean Deaver; and a brother, Richard Deaver.
David was born July 2, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Wiley and Beulah (Davis) Deaver. David married Scina Habhab on May 25, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids. David proudly served in the United States Navy and recently participated in the World War II Honor Flight. David was a locomotive engineer for the Rock Island Railroad for over 35 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible in Cedar Rapids and had a great passion for railroading and trains.
