DEANE JAMES
Wyoming
Deane Eldon James, 81, passed away Oct. 31, 2014, at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
He was
born Feb. 15, 1933, to Cecil and Lucy James in Center Junction, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two infant siblings, William James and Diane James; a brother, David James; and a sister, Cecile Keller.
He is survived by his sisters, Ruth Siebels (Marvin), Hot Springs Village, Ark., Onalee Crocker (Norman), Spring Hill, Tenn., Kathleen James (Kenneth), Olin, and Susan Nichols (Connie), Cedar Falls.
Deane attended Wyoming High School and completed five semesters at the University of Iowa before he was hired by Burroughs Typewriter Co. to oversee its office supply problems. Subsequently he served for three years in the Army and then drove his own big rig as a private trucker. In between two stints driving the truck, he purchased two farms, which he alternately farmed and rented out when he was on the road.
Deane had a keen interest in cars, airplanes and motorcycles, and he also was an avid reader! After building many airplanes – some motorized – he built his own single-engine, two-passenger plane.
He developed an interest in rocks, crystals and Indian relics during his time on the road traveling coast to coast. He also utilized his travels to visit his siblings in different parts of the country.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial follows at the Wyoming Cemetery.
