Dean, Randall J.
CEDAR RAPIDS - Randall J. Dean, 57, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Lincoln, Neb., died Oct. 13, 2010, at Arrowhead Hospital in Glendale. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Best Funeral Service, 9380 West Peoria Ave., Peoria, AZ 85345. Friends, family, co-workers and acquaintances who would like to attend are welcome. His body was cremated; there will be no visitation or burial services at this time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shelly, Glendale, Ariz.; his mother, Bonnie Dean, Lincoln, Neb.; his brother, Dwight Dean, Lincoln, Neb.; and his sister, Vicki Stepp, Pasadena, Calif., and her husband, Larry, and three sons, David, Marty and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Randall Dean.
Randy was born in 1953 in Lincoln, Neb., to Bonnie and Frank Dean. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in electrical engineering and went on to work as an avionics engineer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He met his wife, Shelly, there and they were married in 1992. Later Randy and Shelly moved to the Phoenix, Ariz., area, where Randy pursued his career at Honeywell and ultimately worked on cutting-edge avionics programs as well as a NASA-funded space program.
His hobbies were raising horses, boating, water and snow skiing, snowmobiling, camping and sports such as softball and basketball. He loved his and Shelly's cat, Tobey.
