Dean E. Pennington, 70, of Vinton, died Sunday, May 29, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Celebration of Life services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in Lafayette Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Brosh Chapel.
Dean was born June 22, 1945, in Iowa City, the son of Joseph and Virginia (Smith) Pennington. He attended Anamosa Public Schools. Dean was united in marriage to Candy S. Bailey on July 3, 1986 in Davenport. He was the owner/operator of Pennington Trucking for over 50 years. Dean enjoyed gambling, fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Dean is survived by his wife, Candy; three children, Robert (Lori) Bailey of Vinton, Tammy (Bill) Adcock of Watkins and Kermit (Jessica) Delay of Vinton; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Joe (Sandra) Pennington of Tipton, Karen (Ron) Jepson of Lake Wales, Fla., Randy Pennington of Mediapolis and Denise (Lawrence) Sorensen of Toddville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Diana Baugh.
