Dean Lawrence "Larry" Thompson, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held Monday, March 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom.
Larry was born Nov. 4, 1941, in Santa Monica, Calif. He graduated from Parsons College in 1964. On April 16, 1983, he married Erma VanDeest. Larry worked at Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 2005. He enjoyed many hobbies, which included raising fish and birds, volleyball, golf, fishing, boat racing, hiking, being a member of the Eastern Iowa Pond Society and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Erma Thompson; children, Brian (Beth) Thompson and Scott (Amy) Thompson of Texas, and Allen (Cindy) Clough and Jill (Jeff) Wright of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Scott (Jan) Thompson of Colorado and Dennis (Carol) Miers of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Thompson and Margorie Miers.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Mercy in memory of Larry would be greatly appreciated.
