It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dean H. Raddatz, 91, of Center Point, Iowa, formerly of Troy Mills, Iowa, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Troy Mills Cemetery in Troy Mills, Iowa.
Dean was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on July 13, 1932, the son of Arthur and Esther (Steinhaus) Raddatz. He graduated from Troy Mills High School. Dean met Marlys Cameron in Troy Mills; they eloped at Center Point United Methodist Church on Dec. 1, 1951. Dean joined the U.S. Army and they moved to Texas where he served during the Korean war. Their oldest son was born in Texas. The couple then moved back to the Troy Mills area where they raised their three children. He worked at Collins Radio for 37 years until retirement. After retirement, Dean worked for Pharmacy Services for 15 years.
Dean loved our great outdoors. He hunted deer for many years. Dean taught all his children and grandchildren the beauty of our trees and birds and taught all of them the love of being a good fisherman. He was an avid fan of his grandchildren’s sports, the Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR.
Dean is survived by his three children, Richard Raddatz, Kevin (Laurie) Raddatz and Dawn (Mark) Hepker; seven grandchildren, Kyle Raddatz, Trent Raddatz, Tiffany (Chris) Nielsen, Justin (Megan) Raddatz and Alexie (Justin) Supple, Lindsay (Justin) Machacek, Nicole (Brian) Voss; and nine great-grandchildren, Jackson, Quinn, and Kendall Nielsen, Ella and Miley Raddatz, Sloan and Avery Supple, Nolan and Reagan Machacek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlys, in 2015; and brothers, Laurence and Loren Raddatz.
