Dean H. Eberly, 88, died peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025 at The Bird House Hospice Home.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Dean’s life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the time to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Bird House Hospice Home.
Dean was born January 31, 1937 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Percival and Dorothy (Oggel) Eberly. Dean did his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Iowa.
While attending the University of Iowa he met Carolyn Plock. They were married on September 9,1962 in Burlington.
Dean was a historian who studied and researched the Middle Ages and Religion. He had been a member of the National Historical Association since 1965 and loved tennis, jazz and classical music.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to The Bird House Hospice Home for their loving, tender care of Dean.
Dean is survived by his brother, Rob (Karla) of Minneapolis; his sister-in-law, Susan Eberly of Lynnwood, Wash.; his nieces, Elizabeth Eberly and Sarah Eberly; his nephews, Scott Eberly, Matt Eberly, and Benjamin Eberly; and extended family in Colorado.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn; and his brother, Lee.
