DEAN C. CHALLED
Richmond, Ill.
Dean C. Challed, 83, of Richmond, Ill., passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at his residence.
Dean was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on July 9, 1938, a son of the late Dr. Donald and Olga (Miller) Challed. He attended McKinley High School. Dean was an avid golfer and played his first round of golf at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids.
He was married to Judy Stephen on Dec. 30, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Richmond.
He was a graduate of Northwestern University, where he was a member of SAE Fraternity and of the Northwestern University collegiate golf team. Dean retired as the national transportation manager at True Value (Cotter & Co). He previously worked for American Hospital Supply. A member of Richmond/Spring Grove Area Rotary for almost 50 years, he served on Richmond Village Board Planning Commission.
Dean is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Katie (Rob) Price of Trout Valley, Ill.; three grandchildren, Charlie, Gretchen and Teddy; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Challed, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was preceded by two sons, Scott and Christopher; and two brothers, Donald (Mary) Challed and David Challed.
Memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Grace Lutheran Church, 6000 Broadway, Richmond. The Rev. Andy Tyrrell will officiate.
