Dawson, Janet R. (Thompson)

Beloved wife and mother, Janet R. (Thompson) Dawson, 71, of Guttenberg, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Marion, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Janet was born the daughter of Clair and Ada (Wood) Thompson, Dec. 30, 1939, in Anamosa, Iowa.

Janet graduated from the Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and attended college. On Nov. 22, 1957, she was united in marriage with Jimmie Dawson in Cedar Rapids. Janet was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, knitting, sewing and was a Linn County Master Gardner.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmie; two sons, David M. Dawson of Cedar Rapids, and Douglas (Deb) Dawson of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol (Cecil) Horne of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Diana M. Dawson.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First, Guttenberg, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8: p.m. Wednesday, July 13. Funeral service will be at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Devin Bryant will be officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, about 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
