Davis, Donald E.
Donald E. Davis, 74, of 2500 23rd Ave., Marion, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from complications of cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Dennis Johnson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joyce, of Marion; his children, Dennis of Mesa, Ariz., Jeff (Cherie) Davis of Marion, Dee (Don) Dunkel of Marion and David (Roxie) Davis of Marion; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Jennifer, Jacob L., Stephanie, Brianna, Jacob D., Amanda and McKenna; three great-grandchildren, JaLynn, MadeLynn and Danielle; and siblings, Shirley Haynie, Dean Davis, Gary Davis and Jack Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Dale.
Don was born Nov. 15, 1936, the son of Clyde and Freda (Basler) Davis, at home in Lenox, Iowa. He married Joyce Shelton on Aug. 2, 1959, in Jacksonville, Fla. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Crisis. He was employed at Rockwell-Collins for 33 years, retiring in 1992.
Don especially enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and activities. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, tennis, bowling, woodworking, and repairing electronics.
A memorial fund has been established in Don's memory.
