Davis, Betty J.
Betty J. Davis, 79, of Wapello, Iowa, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine, of natural causes following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Burial will be in Ainsworth Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Wapello Food Pantry and the Wapello United Methodist Church in Betty's name.

Betty Jean Coakley was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Glen G. and Mildred Alberta Ebner Coakley. In 1946, Betty married C.L. Belzer; they divorced in 1949. On Feb. 14, 1981, Betty was united in marriage to Waldo Edwin Davis in Wapello. She was a lifelong resident of Wapello and was employed by Sylvania Electric and at Leopold Furniture, both in Burlington. She was a member of the Wapello United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and VFW Auxiliary and was active in the Louisa County Shriners.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Belzer (Sylvia) of Wapello and William Belzer (Carla) of Mount Pleasant; stepson, Kevin Davis (Sharon) of Muscatine; stepdaughters, Sharon Marnholtz (Herb) of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Jane McCleary (Tom) of Morning Sun and Lisa Schneider (Steve) of Wapello; one stepdaughter-in-law, Bonita Davis of Independence; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Bachtell (Jack) of Hiawatha.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandchildren and one stepson.
