Davies, Kenneth 'Ken' V.
Kenneth “Ken” V. Davies, 87, of Fairfax, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed John XXIII by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 until 7:30 p.m. Friends may also visit after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Ken is survived by his children, Barbara (Harry) Hill, Linda (Forrest) Zimpleman, Ken Jr., John (Sharon), Judy (Roger) Henley, Roger, and Kim (Billy) Hunter; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Deloras “Dee” Kane; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; great-grandson, Tyler; and eight siblings.
Ken was born May 10, 1925, in Dubuque, the son of Clyde and Nellie Steffens Davies. He married Alice M. Becker on Oct. 25, 1947, in Dubuque. He retired in 1988 from Kwik Way Manufacturing. He was a longtime member of St. Jude Catholic Church and a recent member of Blessed John XXIII Catholic Church. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of Machinist Local 381.
Ken enjoyed spending time in Tama and bowling in his younger years. He will be remembered as a wonderful dad and grandpa who loved spending time with family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
