David Wayne Westphal, 78, of Olin, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2025. He was born on October 21, 1947, in Anamosa, Iowa, to Harold Carl Westphal and Ila Mae (Jensen) Westphal.
On August 26, 1967, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rebecca (Levsen) Westphal. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.
David worked for many years as a crane operator and machinist, proudly serving as a member of the Operating Engineers and Machinists unions. He was also a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa.
David loved traveling with his wife, spending time fishing, visiting casinos, and dining out. He treasured his family above all and cherished every moment spent with them. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Becky; two sons, James (Amy) of Ely, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Anita) of Nevada, Iowa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald; and his sister, Patricia Edwards.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Dawson Funeral Services in Olin, Iowa. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 3, at 1:00 p.m., also at Dawson Funeral Services in Olin. Burial will take place at a later date at the Olin Cemetery.
David will be remembered for his kind heart, easy smile, and the love he had for his family and the simple joys in life. His legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
