DAVID WAYNE STURTZ
North Liberty
David Wayne Sturtz, 58, of North Liberty, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
The Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, followed by a service at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville.
Dave was born April 1, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Darrell and Joan Sturtz of rural Alburnett, Iowa. He graduated from Alburnett High School before attending the University of Iowa, where he received a finance degree. Dave was united in marriage to Lisa Juhnke on Sept. 15, 1990, in North Liberty, where they raised their two kids.
Dave had an unwavering passion for sports through coaching, cheering, watching, following and supporting his two kids and their teammates. A diehard fan of the Cardinals and Packers, he never could miss a game on TV, while he knew every detail possible. The Cardinals 2011 World Championship run and the heroics of Aaron Rodgers were some of his favorite memories.
Playing board and card games with his family and friends gave Dave great enjoyment and brought out his competitive spirit. His favorites among many included Backgammon, Sequence, Rummy 500, Cribbage, and most of all, Euchre. Dave loved doing crossword puzzles so much so he couldn't move on to a new puzzle without finishing one. He was a lifelong gambler, including many casino visits, daily scratch-off tickets and Streak for the Cash through ESPN.
Dave is survived by his parents, Darrell and Joan Sturtz of Marion, Iowa; sister, Sherri Sturtz of Marion; brother, Mike Sturtz (daughter Delaney Sturtz) of Alburnett; his wife, Lisa Sturtz of North Liberty, their daughter, Brianna Sturtz of North Liberty, and their son, Shane Sturtz of Iowa City; his stepson, Chad Smith (and wife, Iilene Smith) of Mazomanie, Wis.; and two step-grandsons, Leo and Arlo Smith.
Memorial contributions can be made to the David Sturtz Memorial Fund and directed to Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.
